August

  • August garden

(Revised 26 Jan 2015)
Usually, August is more or less a continuation of July for summer flowers, but with some overlap with September near the end.
The summers here have a tendency to be either too dry or too wet or too hot. Weeds here will shoot up instantaneously and grow a few centimeters if you blink.
One of the challenges in using perennials in the garden is many of them will descend into a state of unsightly decline after flowering. So far I am not particularly successful in addressing this problem. It is an on-going iterative effort.

Plants of interest in August:

– Agastache
– Astrantia
– Calluna
– Ceratostigma
– Chrysanthumum (if spring is early)
– Clematis
– Coreopsis
– Crocosmia
– Echinacea
– Gentiana septemfida
– Helenium
– Hemerocallis
– Heuchera
– Hibiscus
– Hosta
– Lilium
– Limonium
– Phlox paniculata
– Ratibida
– Rosa
– Sedum
