(Under construction)

Mertensia bakeri

This appears to be somewhat small similar to sibirica but not as neat.

Mertensia sibirica

Its blue flowers are pure and divine. Even the bluish green foliage is ornamental, and is compact and neat. It appears to be happy in a semi-shaded location. My plants came from seeds sowed a number of years ago. The main clump was destroyed by voles in the winter of 2010. Fortunately, I saved one of the self-sowed seedlings in a different location. It will take some time to establish a nice clump again assuming the voles let this one live. I have the more common Virginia Blue Bell before. It was big and messy and not nearly as lovable as the smaller species.
