Pinus contorta

(Under construction)
Pinus contorta (common name beach pine) is considered not hardy to our area. However, Pinus contorta var. latifolia is said to be hardy to Zone 1 based on Dr. A.R. Buckley of Dominion Arboretum. (Most conifer books said they are hardy to zone 5 and Dirr said zone 7-8.)

Pinus contorta ‘Chief Joseph’

This is likely the most famous pine with bright winter gold colour. It is expensive because it is harder to propagate. I considered myself lucky that I can get hold of a tiny young one. I hope it can survive our winter.

Pinus contorta ‘Taylor’s Sunburst’

This pine is famous for its cream colour shoots in spring contrasting nicely with the green foliage.
