Picea mariana (common name black spruce) is another native conifer. Apparently, spruce beer is made from young shoots of this conifer in Newfoundland.
Picea mariana ‘Aurea’
This is a new acquisition; another gift from Darren of Whistling Gardens.
Picea mariana ‘Aureovariegata’
My plant is just a baby. RHS Encyclopedia of Conifers indicates that Picea mariana ‘Aureovariegata’ is no longer in cultivation apparently based on two relative old conifer books. I saw a beautiful specimen on Whistling Gardens web site.
