Abies nordmanniana ‘Golden Spreader’ in June

(Revised 17 December 2013)
Abies nordmanniana (common name Caucasian fir) is native to Caucasus Mountain and northern Turkey. It is supposed to be hardy to Zone 6. (We will see.)

Abies nordmanniana ‘Golden Spreader’

This is a very popular conifer. The golden colour persists year round. In fact, the colour can go intense yellow to almost having an orange undertone in winter. Although it is called a spreader, it may develop a leader as it ages. I am not certain of how hardy it is to my area. My plants are less than 3 years in my garden, and are located in partial shade because they can get burnt in full sun. One of them is in a fairly exposed position.
It originated from a seedling in S.N.Schoots Nursery in Netherlands.
