Nepeta
(Revised 13 Feb 2011)
We grow them not simply because our cat likes some of them; they have this cooling appeal that pacifies any overheated (strongly coloured) perennial beds. The groundcover forms are more easy to use. The tall ones need some form of support. The variety ‘Walker’s Low’ is very popular, but it seems over-rated; tries to grow a little too big and eventually becomes somewhat floppy even in full sun (at least in my garden).
Nepeta x faassenii ‘Blue Wonder’
This is a low compact dwarf that is long blooming well and neat most of the time.

Nepeta x faassenii 'Blue Wonder' in June
Nepeta racemosa ‘Walkers Low’
It looks good when it is at its best; tends to be floppy as season progress.
