Acer jap. ‘Acontifolium’
(Revised 7 Feb 2011)
The Japanese name for Acer japonicum ‘Acontifolium’ is ‘Maiku jaku’ which means ‘dancing peacock’. I always prefer name with beautiful meaning rather than botanist’s choice. The original plant I acquired many years ago was gone. The one I have now was air-layered from the original plant.
The fall colour is reliable but varies, and is always spectacular.
