Love of Maples

(Revised 8 Feb 2011)
If you appreciate van Gogh in art, or Chopin in music, then you should appreciate the subtle beauty of maples in your garden; the kind of enjoyment like reading a beautiful poem.  In any case, its true beauty can only be seen and felt in person rather than described.

It is the opinion of many experience gardeners that oriental maples are not hardy in our area; an opinion I disagree with. We consider ourselves fortunate that we live in a part of Ontario where these maples survive reasonably well. There are additional challenges to grow these maples in our garden; like fighting the destructive rabbit pests, poor soil and drainage, and water supply limitation etc. Many of our maples are still quite young.

You can see more of our little collections in the sub-pages listed in the sidebar to the right.
