    You have some great maples. It seems you might be gardening some place in Durham Region. What do you think is the secret to getting Japanese maples to survive in zone 5

      Hi Don,
      I am in Milton (Zone 5b). After more than 20 years of growing these maples, I am still struggling to learn the secret. In general, for cold climate (Zone 5) garden, I find that these maples survival better if you (1) locate them where they are sheltered from the north wind and shaded from the south in winter, (2) provide well drain soil and planting hole.
