Larix
(Revised 9 Feb 2011)
The common name is Larch. Larix are graceful trees with very attractive refreshing spring green and splendid bright yellow fall colour. They look attractive even with their bare branches in winter.
Larix decidua ‘Pendula’
This is one of the most graceful conifirs. It is a birthday present from my daughter, and is in my garden about 4 years now.

Larix decidua ‘Puli’
This weeping larch is sipposed to have very lacy weeping look. Unfortunately, the plant I acquired last year was not top grafted. It will take a lot more training effort to make it look as good.

Larix kaempferi
Over the years, I have gradually lost all my Janapese larch except for one self-sown seedling. I suspect they do not like the wet feet in my hard clay soil.

Larix kaempferi ‘Pendula’
This plant started in my garden as a ‘landscape size’ specimen more than 13 years ago. Its overall shape has declined over the years because of over crowding. I have started to revitalize it the last couple of years removing a few crowding conifers. Hopefully, it will recover over the next few years.

Larix laricina ‘Blue Sparkler’
My Larix laricina ‘Blue Sparkler’ is still a baby. It is an interesting blue dwarf larch.

Larix laricina 'Blue Sparkler' in May
The unusual combination of rain water and hot temperature in summer of 2010 stimulated tremendous growth rate.
