Chamaecyparis

(Revised 9 Feb 2011)
The common name is Falsecypress. Chamaecyparis is one of the most ornamental groups of conifer (at least for me); the textures of the intricate fan shaped branches of obtusa and of the fluffy pisifera. It requires far less maintenance effort than the commonly used boxwood and yew, and has far higher ornamental attributes. It is useful in both shade and sun. Unfortunately, many of the varieties and some of the subgroups are not reliably hardy to this area.

I have organized the photos of my Chamaecyparis into the following sub-pages, and you can navigate to them via the menu listed under Chamaecyparis in the sidebar to the right:
Chamaecyparis nootkatensis, Chamaecyparis obtusa, Chamaecyparis pisifera

Examples of Chamaecyparis are shown below.

Chamaecyparis nootkatensis

(It has been re-identified as Cupressus/Xanthocyparis?)
